Went to Whole Foods. That was my first mistake. Bought six items — I repeat, six items — and the total was $82.14. I made one full meal from those items before realizing I would need to return…to procure more organic, non-GMO, free-range, grass-fed, all-natural ingredients…along with helpers, the things you can’t eat alone, like salad dressing, pink Himalayan salt, jam, chia seeds, tea, etc.

I was excited and dismayed all at once. On one hand, I couldn’t wait to whip out my cookbook and get fancy — ya know, post filtered photos on Instagram and brag about my chef…

Money is the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost of American life

What, but the rapacity of the only men who exercised their reason, the priests, secured such vast property to the church, when a man gave his perishable substance to save himself from the dark torments of purgatory.

— Mary Wollstonecraft

Not far from my home, maybe half a lap around a track, is a Shell station that lights up a bleak corner in an otherwise well-to-do area. …

Business, love, life and peace, begin and end with consistent action and positive thinking.

Consistency of performance is essential. You don’t have to be exceptional every week but as a minimum you need to be at a level that even on a bad day you get points on the board. — Sean Dyche

Let this be the first thing I say: If you’re not where you want to be, it’s because you’re inconsistent. Emotional balance, tangible results, and winning visions, all stem from a steadfast mind. In short, consistency is the mental glue that holds everything together. That’s why, when you see someone quit a physical activity, such as cycling or running on a…

When it comes to securing victory, who better to listen to than 15-time major champion Tiger Woods.

When it comes to personal and professional success, positioning is key. Placement is highly regarded in the world of marketeers and self-development gurus, and for good reason! In any endeavor, but particularly those that are competitive in nature — like sales or sports — failure to position your product, brand, or efforts in alignment with the desires of the customer or your individual goals frequently results in loss.

Plain and simple, if your actions or products do not generate awareness, communicate value, or convert potential clients, be it sports or business, you will soon be in dire straits.

What They Say

You sometimes…

Trust me, you know who they are.

Photo by Rangga Aditya Armien from Pexels

I started not to write this, considering there are family and friends who follow my submissions here on Medium. Out of love and respect, I gave them this much credit, that they, at least occasionally come here and read what I have to say — which is more than what they give, and have given me, if we’re talking about credit and not what I have to say.

I’m experiencing a curious ailment known only to doers and visionaries and grapplers: it is the tempestuous revelations of growth. While the masses understand this affliction conceptually, its true nature eludes them…

I know it’s hard. I know you want to quit. But, read this before you do!

“A year ago, everything was different. I wouldn’t have pictured myself like this. And now that I look back, I have realized that a year can do a lot to a person.” — Unknown

Give it a year. This adage applies to everything. Any endeavor that is marked by the merits of progress can attest to the power of time — and in this case, the power of one year.

It’s taken me 18 months, since starting my business, to finally surrender to this hard-won conclusion about big goals: anything worthwhile will take at least one year to bear fruit…

I constantly worry about money. There’s simply no other way to say it.

Photo by Steve Johnson from Pexels

I want to feel, but…without the texture of money printed on my thoughts. For me, and countless others who live paycheck-to-paycheck, life is always on the other side of a dollar bill, and I’m tired of it. All of my existence is colored in the patina of financial strain. And the culprit, the double-edged sword of Capitalism, could be destroyed were it not for our incessant desire to live above the people we were born beside.

Every expenditure holds a little life in it. The irony is, in every cent saved is a life yet lived. And while work is…

Why are you holding your dreams captive? Unchain them and realize your full potential!

I have this habit of dulling my dreams, to match my reality; and it’s really quite tragic because…I’m not too enthralled with my reality.

This morning, on my way to the park, I passed a street that looked a lot like a neighborhood I’d traipsed through in Milan, yet it somehow felt uniquely Catalonian in spirit, which was oddly satisfying — or maybe not strange at all, considering I was likely experiencing wanderlust-hangover: when the breadth of your travels overlap, blurring the borders of those lands and the borders of the soul.

Though the moment was only the size of…

Miles : Sometimes you gotta say “What the Fuck”, make your move. Joel, every now and then, saying “What the Fuck”, brings freedom. Freedom brings opportunity, opportunity makes your future. So your parents are going out of town. You got the place all to yourself.
Joel Goodson : Yeah.
Miles : What the fuck.

Reason #1: Your Friends and Family Were Put on Earth to Help You

Whenever my paycheck hits my checking account, I divvy out how much goes to bills and necessities — like most adults would — and then I take the rest and blow it on shoes, clothes, and fine dining — like most adults wouldn’t…

Am I capable of loving beyond the physical?

Photo by Nico Marks on Unsplash

“sex is the consolation you have when you can’t have love”
Gabriel García Márquez

I have thought far longer on what love should be…than what it actually is. I get caught up in the rapture of physical pleasure, and to imagine anything greater than this sweet release, this which stirs voluntary captivity, with staggering integrity is deliciously compelling. And truthfully, exhiliratingly maddening. It’s like someone biting your lip during a kiss.

But lately, I’ve come into contact with myself — the real me — and sometimes we are so out of touch it shocks me, that I must make…
